Is hypnosis the same as meditation?

Hypnosis and meditation induce similar states of deep relaxation that can help you to reduce stress and find more inner calm. However, the two practices are not quite the same. Hypnosis tends to offer immediate results and focuses on tapping into the subconscious mind to reach a specific goal (like eliminating bad habits or improving your performance in important areas of life). Meditation often requires consistent practice and dedication before one notices improvement. Meditation is usually practiced with no particular goal and aims to improve the awareness of the present moment and the self. 

Since there is such a wide range of different meditation traditons and practices, there are probably some among them that share more similarities with hypnosis than others.
